Obituary | 7 October 2009 | His obituary: on 7 October 2009 at Pasadena Star News, Pasadena, Los Angeles Co., California, KENNEDY-Walter Henry Kennedy, born April 1, 1915. He went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 3, 2009. He died peacefully at the age of 94 in his current home at Emeritus in San Dimas, CA surrounded by family and all the care givers that loved him. Walter was born in Pasadena, CA where he lived his entire life. He attended Washington Elementary, St. Elizabeth's Catholic School where he was an Altar Boy, and John Muir Tech., now Pasadena City College. Walter and 6 good friends founded the Tri Gamma Fraternity while at PCC. On September 26, 1939, he married his lovely wife Elinor Perry and together they would have celebrated their 70th anniversary this year. On January 18, 1943, Walter enlisted in the Navy and served on the Battleship New Mexico as a machinists mate second class, and fought in the South Pacific arena during WWII. He was discharged on October 18, 1945. Walter immediately joined the US Postal Service and worked there as a letter carrier until he retired in May 14, 1975. Walter was preceded in death by his wife Elinor Kennedy in 1992, his son Perry Kennedy in 1973 and his three brothers; Norman, Har ry and Bob Kennedy. He is survived by his daughters Carolyn Hoffman of Utah, Kathy Winn of Sisters, Oregon and Julie Taylor of Glendora, CA. Further survived by his three grandchildren; Steven, Mandi and Lisa as well as 6 great grandchildren. Many will miss Walter's ready smile as he always had time for those who cared for him, young and old, and never knew a soul that he did not call a friend.
