Graveside services for Muriel were conducted by the Rev C L Conder.
Muriel was a life long student of plants and especially their medicinal qualities. Between 1962 and 1975 she published three books on medicinal plants; Common Edible and Useful Plants of the West, How Trees Help Your Health, and Common Edible and Useful Plants of the East and Midwest. Shortly before her death she revised the Edible Plant of the West book and it is still in print (don't know what date this statement was written).

CAUTION There are other facts and images to be added from James Haggerty's pension. I'll get to it as soon as possible.
Birth 1833 Westmeath, Ireland1
Military 4 October 1852 New York City, New York, New York, When he acknowledges that he voluntarily enlists on this date, he signs his name with one G and states that he is 21, born in Westmeath Ireland. He is described as having blue eyes, brown hair, fair complextion and is 5' 5"1
Military 4 August 1857 Belknap, Young Co., Texas, When he acknowledges that he voluntarily re-enlisted on this date, he signs his name with one G and states that he is 24, born in Westmeath Ireland. He is described as having blue eyes, black hare, fair complextion and is 5' 5"1
(InHomeOf) Census1870 1870 Farmer from Kentucky; pg 623 #19-19, Mt Pleasant, Cass Co., Missouri
Marriage 1 January 1871 Mary Jane Gambill; Belton, Cass Co., Missouri, They definitely married on Jan 1st, as that is what is stated in James' pension by Mary in 1909. She puts the year as 1866 "that she believes that to be the date". However, they had not yet married in the 1870 census and their first child wasn't born until 1874, so the year would be between 1870 and 1873. In the 1900 census it says they've been married 30 years, which would make it 1870 but since we know they weren't yet married in 1870, it has to be 1871.

Story Nathan Sweet Jr wrote:
I have two recollections of my Grandfather Weber. One was a time that I was running down a path in their garden and as I came around a corner there he was and I remember being in sort of awe and probably frightened some. Another time was while eating lunch at his dining room table and that he had a straw that he used to drink his coffee with (Mother told me some years later that he had a bad tremble and could not hold a spoon steady enough to keep the coffee in the spoon).
He was an inventor and did very well although he was cleaned-out twice by partners. Grandmother Weber told me that while recovering from a nervous breakdown following the second time of loosing everything, he was down by the railroad tracks and as a train went by he noticed that every time a car's wheel crossed the joint where two rails met the ends of the rails bent down. He looked closer and saw that the tops of the rails at the joint were flared-out from the pounding each train wheel gave the tops of the rail as it passed over the joint.
At that time rails were held together by two heavy pieces of iron strap placed on eachside of the rail and bolted through the rail. While this held the rails together it gave no support to the top part of the rail. He designed two pieces of metal that fitted up under the top part of the rail and while holding the rails together end to end where stronger and pushed up under the top part and there by kept rail from bending down each time a car wheel went over the joint.
He went into the business of manufactoring the joints (known of as the Weber Rail Joint). He was able to sell the Santa Fe Railroad Co. on replaing all their old railjoints with his. While I was stationed at the Naval Base in San Diego during the Korean War I found some of the rail joints in use on the lighter rails on the sidings marked with his company's name.
He went on and improved on his original patent and also developed an insulated joint that made it possible to activate the caution wigwags at inersections. Mother said that at the time of his death he had plans on his drawing board for a puncture proof automobile tire. You can imagine what a boon that would have been for the automobile traveler of the early 1920's when a flat tire was the rule for most trips in a car.

Note He was a merchant per daughter Muriel's birth certificate

Story Nathan Sweet Jr wrote:
Grandfather Weber was not interested in the management of the home or the people in it as long as he could work on his business. After he died Grandmother had the complete management of everything and during the depression got ahold of some bad advice and lost quite a lot of money before things got straightened out. We usually went to her house for dinner on Sundays evenings and she always presided at the head of the table. When my Uncle Hoyt was alive, Mother's brother, he was often there but I don't remember much about my cousins or his wife, Aunt Daisy. There'd often be a doctor there and some other professional man and the conversation was usually pretty lively during the evening. My brother John and I were not expected to stay in the living room all evening and we didn't but we sort of heard what was going on.
Once I used the term "pooped out" as "I'm all pooped out" and Grandmother took exception to it. She called me aside and in very subdued but firm terms informed me that that was a very bad thing to say for it related to moving one's bowels and that was not parlor talk. Yet I can remember her using the term "piss and vinager" as "you are full of piss and vinegar" meaning full of life. I was enough impressed by her authority that I did not question her usage even though now I cannot see why "poop out" is as bad as "piss and vinegar".

Marriage 28 March 1855 Mary Morgans
Story William Hoyt has a beautiful residence, near his two brothers, on Noroton Hill in Stamford CT, built upon the same spot where his father and grandfather resided, and which has been owned by the family for several generations. The three brothers, J B, William, and Oliver, the "Hoyt Bros." of 1866, all learned the tanner's trade of Nathaniel Bouton, at Noroton River, in Darien, before they went to New York City. The services of William, in connection with the Stamford Meeting, as one of its originators; as a contributer to and treasurer of the publication fund; and in securing the excellent steel likenesses found in this book are worthy of special remembrance by the Hoyt Family. - From: A Genealogical History of the Hoyt, Haight, Hight Families.
